EBIPM Assessment Guidelines has been developed to assist land managers in pinpointing ecological processes not funtioning in complex ecosystems. As invasive annual grasses continue to spread, it is clear that "business as usual" on rangelands is not getting the job done (is not solving the weed problem). This guide merges Rangeland Health Assessment together with EBIPM to identify not only the problem but also the cause of the problem, which can more successfully lead to our ultimate goal, fixing the problem.

Implementing EBIPM: Science-Driven Invasive Plant Management  addresses one of the key issues that land managers face: recognizing that when invasive species begin to establish, the weeds themselves are not the actual cause of the problem. The weeds are merely a symptom of the problem, which is, more often than not, an ecological process in disrepair. The science of rangeland management is ecology and just as with any other science, there are principles that govern the science. This video outlines many of those ecological principles so managers can combine their knowledge and experience with ecology to make decisions that have a greater likelihood of success and sustainability.

"A Working Ranch with an effective medusahead management program” tells the story of Ben and Barbara McGough who purchased the Circle Bar Ranch (Mitchell, OR) in 2003 and soon learned the ranch had a serious infestation of medusahead. They realized they needed to either “get on board with some kind of project to control the medusahead or sell now.”

With the help of ARS Ecologist Roger Sheley and others at the Eastern Oregon Agricultural Research Center in Burns, OR, Ben and Barbara began using EBIPM to focus on treating the true causes of the infestation and get a hold on the invasion.

Interpreting Indicators of Rangeland Health training videos The Rangeland Health Assessment provides a method to gather a qualitative assessment to help identify areas where the natural resources may be in danger of becoming degraded or may already be in a degraded state. Interpreting Indicators of Rangeland Health leads the user through the process of a Rangeland Health Assessment and the BLM National Training Center offers a full suite of videos that takes the viewer through the Interpreting Indicators of Rangeland Health training. The video that corresponds directly with the EBIPM University Curriculum is "Module 1.2 The Five-step Process". "The Silent Invasion"

"Something troubling is taking hold in Oregon. Strange, exotic plants and animals are showing up in places where they don't belong. They are invasive species, and they're taking over landscapes, driving native wildlife away, and making everyone from ranchers to fishermen to wildlife managers nervous. What are these invaders? Where do they come from? And what can we do to stop them?"

"Hope on the Range"

This documentary examines the variety of pressures that threaten the health of western rangelands, including population growth and development and the interrelated effects of climate change, wildfires, and invasive species. The program takes viewers to locations around the West where ranchers, conservationists, and public land managers are turning to a legacy of the frontier -- livestock grazing -- to help conserve the rangeland ecosystems.
